Still Dot

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Still Dot?

A quiet thought-placement app for iOS. You write short thoughts and place them as dots in an infinite field. Similar thoughts naturally drift closer to each other over time.

How does placement work?

Double-tap anywhere on the field to open the input. Write your thought (up to 140 characters) and it appears as a dot near your current view. The app determines its semantic position automatically.

What is "emergence"?

When two thoughts remain semantically near each other for 14 or more days, a quiet line appears between them. This is emergence — a visible sign that a connection has persisted. You don't create it. You notice it.

What is time depth?

Older thoughts gradually fade in opacity. Thoughts that stay connected to others resist this fading through "buoyancy." Nothing disappears suddenly — it settles.

What is focus mode?

Long-press a dot to enter focus mode. Unrelated thoughts fade to near-invisible, letting you see only what's semantically connected. Tap the background to exit.

What is Weekly Still?

Once a week, if qualifying pairs exist, the app quietly shows you which thoughts have remained near each other. It's a moment of noticing, not a report.

Can I edit or delete a thought?

Tap a dot when close enough to open its detail. You can edit the text or "fade" it — a soft removal that gently animates the dot away. Faded dots are excluded from the field.

How does iCloud sync work?

Your thoughts sync automatically across your devices via Apple's CloudKit. The developer has no access to your data. You can check sync status in Settings.

Can I use iOS Shortcuts?

Yes. Still Dot provides a "Place a thought" action in the Shortcuts app. You can place thoughts without opening the app directly — through Siri, automations, or custom shortcuts.

Is there any tracking or analytics?

No. Still Dot contains no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs. Everything stays on your device or in your personal iCloud account.
